+Deacon John (Jack) Pierce Obituary

Deacon Jack died peacefully after many years of heart decease. He is preceded in death by his beloved daughter Victoria Lynn Pierce Davenport. He is survived by the love of his life, his wife Alice of (65) years, two sons, John Jr. (Sheryl), Scott (Tracey) five grandchildren, Austin Davenport (Brianna), Ashley Love (Brandon), Marcus Pierce (Brittany), Evan Pierce (Kaitlan), Kelsey Pierce, two great granddaughters McKenzie and Madisyn Love, one great grandson Callan Pierce and son-in-law W. Joseph Davenport (Maria).  Also, two sisters, Betty Glass, Suzanne Hirsch and many nephews and nieces and their families.

Jack was very proud of his service in the U.S. Marine Corps and being a Viet Nam veteran.  He was equally proud of his two sons who were both in the military.  John Jr who was in the U. S. Marine Corps and Scott who retired from the U. S. Air Force as a Major.

He loved to make people laugh and with his quick-witted nature, he had no problem doing that with anyone he encountered.

His wife Alice always said he had a need for speed, since he had motorcycles most of his adult life, as well as getting his private pilot license when he was 25 years old and got his U.S. Coast Guard Captains license when he was 67 years old. He loved the water and was always happy when he could get out to the reef on his boat. He loved to fish, especially with his wife Alice, who usually out fished him but, due to his declining health, he hadn’t done much fishing in the last year.

He was ordained to the diaconate for the Diocese of Palm Beach in 1986.  He loved helping people who were looking for spiritual guidance.  He officiated at many weddings and baptisms at his assignments at St. Thomas More parish in Boynton Beach, Emmanuel parish in Delray Beach and St. Rita parish in Wellington, Fl.  He officiated at numerous wake services and burials especially when he was the administrator at Our Lady Queen of Peace cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, Fl., where he will be buried.

He and Alice moved to the Florida Keys in 2004 and he was assigned to San Pablo parish in Marathon and St. Peter parish in Big Pine Key since 2008.

His wake service will be held at St. Peter parish in Big Pine Key, 1:00PM followed by Mass at 2:00PM, 26 Nov 2019.  His burial will be at Our Lady Queen of Peace cemetery in Royal Palm Beach, FL at 1:00PM, 27 Nov 2019.

In lieu of flowers please donate to the rebuilding of St. Peter Church destroyed by Hurricane Irma in 2017 (31300 Overseas Hwy, Big Pine Key, FL 33043). Deacon Jack loved his St. Peter parish family where he last served his diaconate ministry.

Jack was a good man and a good friend. We had crazy, fun, great times together with our Youth Ministry. My prayers are sent with love to Alice and his family.

  2. Dear Alice and family,
It is with a heavy heart that we are writing this to you. We are so very sorry for your loss and offer our heartfelt sympathies. Jack was a special friend to us. It’s been many years since we’ve been I touch but Jim talked about him frequently and reminisced about things we used to do. I especially remember our quick trip to the Carolinas when we stayed at Dr. Dick’s and Margie’s cabin. God placed Jack on Jim’s heart on Friday because out of the blue Jim said I wonder how Jack Pierce is doing, wonder if he died, and I said I think I would have heard about that. On Monday I received the email notifying us of his passing. Unfortunately, we cannot attend any of the services but we will be there in spirit. We love you. God bless.

Rosemary and I know Jack as he worked as our Business Mgr and Deacon with Fr Walter Dockerill at St RITA parish in Wellington.

You could ask anything of him and was ready to help; a wonderful homily would come from him and our parish was blessed to have him in our midst. We often think of him and always remember our Brother Jack.

  8. Dear Alice,
I have been thinking about you and Jack lately and just today googled Jack and Alice Pierce in WPB and Jack’s obituary was the first thing that came up. I wish I could have seen Jack and you again. After Annette’s death I remarried and moved to Arkansas in 1987. I still have the pictures of Jack assisting with my son David’s baptism. He was one of kind. I loved working with him on several projects.
I would love to hear from you if you are up to it. David is all grown up and married. He lives and works for the Federal Government in the D. C. area.
I hope you are doing well!
